Geology inspires my analysis of the landscape; this has brought about a
body of work primarily concerned with form. Drawings, paintings, mono-prints
and sound recordings examine landscapes as harmoniously destructive and
reconstructive. I translate sound into a visual form, inspired by tumultuous
weather demonstrating dynamic power.

My drawings were made on location responding directly to the environmental effects, sounds and tastes or in the studio. The studio based drawings are inspired by sound recordings, drawings, memories and photographs. These inspired the paintings which I made whilst listening to the sound recordings made at beach locations such as Worms Head, Three Cliffs, Oxwich etc. The drawings and paintings are of equal importance; they both reconstruct and experiment with geological features such as alluvial fans, the strata of rocks and different erosions whilst questioning my own perception.
My most recent work has concentrated on monochromatic form through mono-prints, drawings and projections. Inspired by Merleau-Ponty and Paul Crawther’s writings on phenomenology and depth perception I am questioning my own immediate response to draw and its validity. This has lead on to the projecting of my drawings and paintings, but this is a new avenue I am exploring.
